Ranthambore's core zones are open from 1 October to 30 June each year, closing during the monsoon months (July–September) so the forest can recover — though several buffer zones stay open year-round for those visiting in the rains. Within that open window, the experience changes considerably month to month.

October to February — cool and lush

Fresh off the monsoon, the park is at its greenest, temperatures are pleasant, and birdlife is at its richest with winter migrants on the lakes. Tiger sightings are good but slightly harder than later in the season, since dense foliage and abundant water mean tigers don't need to gather at fixed waterholes.

March to June — hot and tiger-rich

As temperatures climb and water sources shrink, tigers and other wildlife concentrate around the remaining lakes and waterholes — which is exactly why naturalists consider this peak season for sightings, despite the heat. Early morning safaris are noticeably more comfortable than afternoon drives in this window.

Our recommendation

If photography and comfortable weather matter most to you, aim for November to February. If a tiger sighting is the priority above all else, April to June statistically delivers the best odds — just plan for the heat and book the earliest morning slot available. Whichever you choose, book your safari dates well in advance; permits are limited and the popular months fill up fast.
